Setting Intentions | A Powerful Way to Start the New Year

setting intentions for the new year

Here we are, getting ready to greet a new year.

So many of us are welcoming the idea of change because the last year was so rough. But before you toast to midnight on Thursday night, take some time to consider what you want in the next twelve months. Will you enter the next twelve months feeling empowered or will you let the next year have it’s way with you (again)?

What are your intentions? Not resolutions, but intentions.

What kind of energy do you want to welcome? How do you want to FEEL moving forward?

What do you need to heal, forgive, release, let go of, to welcome more peace, harmony, happiness, abundance, fun (or whatever else you desire) into your life?

How much of your energy do you wish to spend on worry and on feeling stuck in your past?

How much of your energy do you wish to spend on fun, love, creating, gratitude, wonder, blessing, appreciation and inviting happiness?

Here’s the thing. These are not your “wishes”. These are your intentions.

“Intention is power. Intention is ownership. Intention is commitment. Intention is magic.” – Sonia Choquette

Intentions are set consciously and deliberately. You are in the driver’s seat of your energy (even when you are not in control of so many other circumstances – like the effects of a pandemic).

You can set your intentions and then move forward consciously staying the course.

“The power of intention is the power to manifest, to create, to live a life of unlimited abundance, and to attract into your life the right people at the right moments.” – Dr. Wayne Dyer

Yes, there are distractions and detours, sadness, loss and countless bummers along the way. But you are in control of how you process, feel, and heal the challenges. The power of intentions is the concept of allowing and expecting. Allowing good things to come into your life and expecting to achieve and enjoy what you set out for.

Intentions help you to keep moving forward while handling the hurdles that will undoubtedly be a part of your life.

It isn’t always easy, but the rewards are great.

Tips to get started setting intentions…

  1. Start with honoring what is so that you can begin from there with how you envision your future intentions.
  2. Think about how you want to feel and what you want to experience in the coming year. Write these intentions down.
  3. Remind yourself that you have choices to make, and that you are in control of how you feel.
  4. Make the decision to believe in yourself, in your intentions, in your ability to develop new habits, to welcome and feel deserving of what you desire.

“The power of intention is a critical factor in all areas of life. Simply by intending to create synchronicity in your life, you can nurture that result.” – Deepak Chopra

Make a commitment to being open to new opportunities and to shifting how you think and the daily choices you make.

Slowly learn to follow your heart and let your instincts guide you to what will move you closer to living the way you want to live, feeling more positively about how you want to feel and your ability to live your intentions, rather than allowing yourself to be the victim of circumstances beyond your control.
