It Is Never Too Late to Change Your Life

Alarm clock with it is never too late flag

You’re never too old and it’s never too late to make positive changes in your life.

It’s an eye-opening day when you hit that fiftieth birthday (and I assume eye-opening again at your sixtieth and seventieth!) and say to yourself, holy bleep, where the heck has my life gone?!

After decades spent focused on our family, career, school, kids and other responsibilities, many of us have lost track of who we are and what we want.

So many years have passed and yet we haven’t yet done so many of the bucket list things we wanted to do. Worse yet, some of us haven’t grown into living the life and becoming the person we hoped we’d get to.

“Midlife: when the universe grabs your shoulders and tells you ‘I’m not f—ing around, use the gifts you were given.” – Brene Brown

So even though there seems to be a finite amount of time to get ‘er done at this point, that doesn’t mean it’s not possible.

In fact, it’s more possible than ever before. Many of the strings that kept us bound to intensely consuming responsibilities have been gently loosened, and some have even detached (flown the nest).

This is the time to bust moves and make some positive changes!

It doesn’t matter what your age or circumstances are, it’s not too late to fire up the turbo boost and head into your personal growth and dream goals at light speed!

Fasten your seatbelt because we are going to get serious here about finally making changes you’ve been wanting to make for yeeeeears.

Here’s how we’re going to get ourselves moving in the right direction: shift, let go, transform and repeat!

I know you could use a pep talk right about now to get yourself moving on this – so consider this it!

Shift into the most effective gear to live the life you want to live.

Shift your mindset into how you want to think, feel, live, be.

Spend time considering how you want to spend your time and energy as you move through this decade. What do you want to accomplish, how will you get there, what will it take?

Start taking small steps toward those plans. Making changes in your life is like following a recipe for baking a cake.

You plan what you want to make. You gather the ingredients and tools you’ll need, and then you follow the steps that lead you to the final product.

Naturally, making transformative, positive life changes take more time and energy than a one-hour cake recipe, but the results are also more satisfying and longer lasting than the short term thrill you get from a bite of cake.

Let go.

Nothing will ever change if we continue to hold onto old habits and limiting beliefs about ourselves. How can we transform our life, our feelings, our health, our future if we have a death grip on the being the way we’ve always been?

“Put blinders on those things that conspire to hold you back, especially the ones in your head.” – Meryl Streep

Let that old you go. Let go of the clutter (both physical and mental) of who you have been in the past, but no longer serves who you are working toward being.

Let go of doing the unnecessary baggage that drag you down. When possible, let go of negative people, stop yourself from absorbing other people’s problems, let go of getting in the middle of drama that isn’t yours.

“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” – Nora Ephron

Start pruning your home, life, mind, body and spirit of what is clouding your vision, weighing you down and holding you back from moving forward. It is not too late to change your life’s path, but you have to put in the effort to do so.

Pull up your life transformation panties.

Stand up tall and straight. You are not eight years old anymore (when you truly had little choice over your life.)

You are a full-grown woman. You have unlimited power within you.

You have a voice. You are smart, strong and capable. You have already faced plenty of adversity in your life so far. And you’re still here.

Know that you are constantly choosing how you are living your life, and how much it is or isn’t serving your best interest, your wellness, your dreams, your potential.

“Isn’t it marvelous to discover that you’re the one you’ve been waiting for? That you are your own freedom?” – Byron Katie, Loving What Is

You are never too old and it’s never too late to start making choices that serve you better.

How you see your challenges and obstacles and whether you let them stop your transformation is a choice as well.

And finally – rinse and repeat.

Once you get the hang of the shift, let go and transform steps. You need to repeat this process. Over and over again until you have made the changes that bring you a little more joy in life, a little more skip in your step, sparkle in your eyes, hope in your heart.

Personal growth is a never-ending journey. We never reach an age when a perfectly jeweled crown with the bedazzled words “I am finally everything I dreamed I’d be” pops up through our hair.

We may possibly never be completely satisfied with ourselves and our lives. And that’s ok. The journey itself is perhaps the juiciest, most fulfilling part of the whole shindig of life.

Cheers to celebrating that it’s never too late to never give in or give up on being the person and living the life we dream of. – Marlene

    1. Absolutely! It’s a journey and you’re right, small changes matter. They can really add up. Even when it feels like it’s two steps forward, one step back… we still keep moving forward!
