Putting the law of attraction to the test

Putting the law of attraction to the test and finding out what’s to gain.

Imagine if whatever you gave your energy and attention to would come back around to you. It’s not complicated nor is it magic and maybe it’s time you tested it out.

You’ve probably heard of the law of attraction. Simply put, the law of attraction is the idea that we bring into our lives that which we focus on.

The law of attraction became super popular after the book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, was published in 2006. Even Oprah Winfrey credited much of her success to the abundance the law of attraction brought into her life.

“Life is an echo. What you send out comes back. What you sow, you reap. What you give, you get.” – Zig Ziglar

What’s so powerful about the possibilities around the law of attraction, and why those of us who haven’t already might want to test it out, is the idea that you may have more control over what comes into your life than you might think.

You may have some authority over what you attract to you. And that authority is a choice you make through your thoughts, emotions and actions.

The principles of the law of attraction have been talked and written about as far back as the late 1800’s. According to some reports, the term may have first been mentioned in a book by author Helena Blavatsky, a controversial philosopher and author in her time.

I’d venture to guess it was spoken about long loooooong before that, maybe even part of religious and spiritual texts and practices, although maybe not specifically called “the law of attraction”.

Baloney? Or not much different than faith

I’m sure there are people who will scoff and say it’s a load of baloney that there’s any way the Universe is paying attention to what we think about or do. But then again, isn’t prayer an energetic focus on a specific request or an outcome? And so many of us vigorously believe in the power of prayer.

For the skeptics

There are stranger things to believe, things that we can’t see or prove, but we know exist. Example – fear. We can’t nail fear down in science experiment, but no one would argue it isn’t “real”.

How about love? The power of love is so incredibly undeniably strong and yet it’s invisible and unprovable in a lab.

And even when there is science involved, we still have a level of faith about how things work.

Think about how you can text a photo from your smartphone to a friend’s phone instantaneously. Yes, there is science to explain how an image is captured by your phone and then transmitted through waves in the air to almost instantly end up on another phone, perhaps on the other side of the globe.

For crying out loud, this is mind-blowing when you really think about it! And yet, most of us don’t spend energy on how impossible it all seems – we see that it works, and we don’t care how it happens.

Another reason to test out the law of attraction for yourself. You’ll see how it works and how you feel, and you won’t give a rat’s tail how it happens!

The force of our attention

Open your mind to consider there may be unseen forces at work in our lives that we can’t necessarily understand or prove. Are those forces connected to God, a Creator, to spirit, to a shared consciousness? I think so, but not the subject for today’s post.

Today we’re considering how very possible it is that we’re consciously or unconsciously affecting those forces and how the outcomes appear in our life.

Let’s take it one step further and consider how we are energetic beings and our energy creates actions and reactions around us.

Example: you are in a good mood, the good mood causes you to smile at a stranger, that smile improves the stranger’s mood, the stranger goes homes and hugs their child, their child’s mood improves, that child draws a happy picture for grandma, grandma receives the picture and feels loved, so grandma gives a bigger tip to her hairdresser…. DO I NEED TO CONTINUE!?!

Karma, shmarma. Call it whatever you like.

There is a definite reactive chain between how we feel, what we then do, and how that affects others. Call it karma, call it fair, call it unfair. Call it whatever you like.

Or let’s not call it anything, let’s test it out. Let’s see what happens on the receiving side, the attraction side of the circular law of attraction.

How can we attract, receive, welcome, invite more of what we want? Whether what we want to attract is love, money, romance, …. the same principles could hold up.

“The more good-feeling emotions you bring to your current circumstances, the faster things begin to work out the way you want, and the faster you feel better.” Gabrielle Bernstein, Super Attractor

Like attracts like. The more positively you think about yourself, the more confidently you will feel and therefore the more positive action you will take and positive results you will achieve.

Another example: If you feel old, you’re less likely to do the things you want to do. Your energetic focus on feeling old brings more of the same. If you complain often, you end up feeling worse than if you give yourself a pep talk and refrain from constantly dwelling on the negative.

Believe that what comes around goes around.

Be nicer, be generous, be kind, be helpful, be forgiving, be polite, invest in others, be supportive, be loving, smile more often. Trust that it isn’t perfect, but more often than not, you will attract the same vibration of energy you’re giving off.

And by the same principles it stands to reason that the more negative, grouchy, angry, mean, selfish, worried we are, the more of that we will propagate. Not only within ourselves but in bringing out those feelings from others.

“What you seek is seeking you.” – Rumi

Positive thoughts and emotions create more positive actions which create more positive outcomes. So, attract more joy, peace, love, happiness, and prosperous opportunities to you by keeping your energy positive and believing you are bringing that abundant energy in a circle right back toward you.

No, it’s not a finite formula that always works. But even if it proves true for you 51% of the time, isn’t it worth doubling down on?

Pay attention to what you are putting your focus on.

Time to try it out for yourself. Notice when your negativity or surly mood has rubbed off on someone else and created the potential for a negativity chain reaction. Either back at you or toward another.

“Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life.” – Tony Robbins

Set intentions and encourage yourself to think and act in alignment with how you want to feel. Give your energy to being generous to others in the area that you wish to receive more of yourself (praise, love, money, kindness, whateva).

Even if the law of attraction doesn’t feel like an idea you can accept – I’ll bet you’ll agree that generally cultivating more positive thoughts and actions in your life will improve how you feel.

It’s a total win-win!

Even if your testing doesn’t provide solid results and you haven’t “attracted” what you’ve been giving out and have focused your energy on, you will still have improved your mood. And most likely the mood of many others you came in contact with, simply through shifting your focus to the good stuff you want more of in your life.

“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract.” – Buddha

I know for sure that when I focus my thoughts and energy on the feelings and things I want to attract in my life, I feel better. I feel more hope, faith, joy, love, forgiveness. I sense that I’m more in control of how I go about my day. I am more energetically aligned and connected to both the seen and the unseen forces of good energy around me.
